DreamWorks Animation Television has tapped former Technicolor exec Robert Winthrop as EVP of physical production. Winthrop’s appointment will be effective in January, following the retirement of current physical production EVP Mark Taylor.

Winthrop will oversee the production pipeline for all DreamWorks TV series, including Netflix Originals All Hail King Julien, The Adventures of Puss in Boots, DinoTrux, Voltron Legendary Defender, Home Adventures with Tip & Oh and Spirit Riding Free. Additionally, he will manage a specialized internal team called The Hub, which is designed to support all shows and departments within DWA TV with CGI components. Winthrop will also oversee DWA series in active production through distribution, working with a global network of partner studios.

Before joining DreamWorks, Winthrop was SVP of animation and games at France-based Technicolor, where he oversaw more than 1,300 animation employees across studios in Paris and India. He joined Technicolor in 2011 in management and production of animated content for television, direct-to-DVD, games, commercials, location-based entertainment projects and theatrical films. Prior to Technicolor, he was a producer and head of production at L.A.-based animation studio SD Entertainment for more than 10 years.

DWA TV currently holds 17 Emmy Awards, including several wins this year for Trollhunters, which it recently announced would be part of an expanded universe called Tales of Arcadia. The Comcast-owned division also recently dove into interactive content with Puss in Book: Trapped in an Epic Tale, allowing Netflix subscribers to try out a choose-your-own adventure story with original content.
