London-based distributor Meta Media Entertainment has secured a raft of broadcasting and platform sales for Studio Film Bilder’s new 2D-animated comedy, Animanimals.

The 26 x four-minute, non-dialog show from the Stuttgart, Germany-based producer has been snapped up by the toon’s broadcast co-producers KiKA and SWR in Germany, as well as SVT (Sweden), YLE (Finland), NRK (Norway), TATA Sky (India) and Jim Jam (pan Europe, Middle East, Africa and Russia).

A MENA deal has also been signed by Discovery Kids, while Télé-Québec and Knowledge Network will air the series in Canada, and TVNZ for New Zealand.

As for platform sales, Chinese VOD service iQIYI and UK-based preschool SVOD app Hopster have both acquired the program. Meta Media is currently in negotiations for additional international sales.

Created by animator/director Julia Ocker, each episode of the life lesson-themed series features a different animal that must find a solution to an absurd situation. (Think how a kraken bakes a cake or how a crocodile eats a pretzel stick).

Episodes from the series have also been released as short films. Zebra and Octopus won the Audience Award at the New York Children’s Film Festival for two consecutive years, and the former also took home the Best Film for Young Children at the Chicago Children’s Film Festival. Penguin has also been selected for this year’s Berlinale Generation competition and next month, the New York Children’s Film Festival will showcase 10 Animanimals films.

The first 13 episodes of the TV series were delivered last August while the remaining half will bow by the end of this month. Animanimals was initially pitched at Cartoon Forum in Toulouse, France in 2015.
