German brand manager m4e has acquired 100% of the rights to the animated series Mia and me from its co-production partner Gerhard Hahn and his studio Hahn Film. The deal follows m4e picking up Italian prodco Rainbow’s 45% stake in the international rights (excluding Italy) to the series in 2016.

After acquiring another 5% of Rainbow’s original stake, m4e owned a 50% share of the toon, and creator Hahn held the remaining 50%. Now, m4e plans to grow the fantasy-themed IP more aggressively across the globe in terms of distribution and product licensing.

The 78 x 23-minute series is co-produced with Germany’s ZDF, with a fourth season currently in development. Broadcast-wise, Mia and me grew exponentially in the past year, launching on new broadcasters in the Nordic territories, Benelux, Estonia, Portugal, France, French-speaking Africa, Australia and Thailand.

As of early last year, Belgium-based Studio 100 owns a 68% stake in m4e.
