Toronto, Canada-based children’s and family entertainment company Lambur Productions has optioned TV rights to Fairy Mom and Me, the first book for young children by bestselling British author Sophie Kinsella.

Four-month-old Lambur Productions will adapt the book into a series of live-action television movies in partnership with Kinsella, her agency Lucas Alexander Whitley, and UK-based executive producer and children’s publishing consultant Helen McAleer (Tilly and Friends, Hank Zipzer).

Fairy Mom and Me follows the story of a little girl whose mother comes from a long line of magical fairies. The twist is that her mom’s spells usually backfire in hilarious ways, leaving young Ella to pick up the pieces.

Kinsella’s book was released in North America this month by publisher Delacorte and will launch in February as Mummy Fairy and Me in the UK by Puffin. A second title will be published in the UK in August 2018 followed by a January 2019 release in the US and Canada. Rights have also been sold in nine additional languages.

Kinsella’s adult books, including the globally successful Shopaholic series, My Not So Perfect Life and YA novel Finding Audrey, have sold more than 40 million copies worldwide.

Former Breakthrough Entertainment family entertainment EVP Joan Lambur launched her company last September with Toronto’s studio Sinking Ship Entertainment holding a minority stake in the business. Ex-Breakthrough VP of family entertainment Suzanne Wilson serves as COO at Lambur Productions. The shop aims to create internationally successful kids and family content by partnering with broadcasters, agents, writers and other creative talent.
