In a move that reverses the traditional method of content distribution, UK-based preschool SVOD service Hopster has tapped Shaun the Sheep producer Aardman to globally distribute its original series.

Hopster Studios’ original shows  included in the deal are a pair of five x two-minute series—science-themed Clever Brenda (pictured) and music video series Hopster Jam—as well as the platform’s brand-new animated holiday special The Little Toymaker (one x six minutes). Aardman’s distribution rights for the series cover free- and pay-TV broadcasters, VOD channels and home entertainment.

According to Hopster, more than half of the platform’s engagement currently comes from its original content, including games and videos. And the SVOD’s content further expands Bristol-based Aardman’s existing distribution rights portfolio, which includes Blue Zoo’s Digby Dragon and Sunrise Productions’ Munki and Trunk.

The deal follows a busy 2017 for Hopster, which included the release of a STEM-themed hub and a digital playroom for autistic kids.

Aardman, meanwhile, will be shopping the Hopster content to perspective buyers for the first time at Kidscreen Summit in Miami this month.
