Jon Favreau on board new Star Wars series

The Jungle Book and Iron Man director has signed a deal with Lucasfilm to executive produce and write a live-action Star Wars series for Disney’s upcoming streamer.

Iron Man director Jon Favreau has signed a deal with Lucasfilm to executive produce and write a live-action Star Wars series for Disney’s the SVOD service Disney is developing. First announced in November, the untitled series does not currently have a release date.

Favreau has been circling the Star Wars galaxy for some time, acting in both Disney XD’s Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series and the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story. He also served as director for the House of Mouse’s live-action version of The Jungle Book, and as executive producer for Marvel’s Avengers films.

Set for a 2019 debut, Disney’s untitled SVOD platform will feature a raft of existing and all-new live-action and animated fare. Original content will include adaptations of Pixar’s Monsters Inc. and Disney Channel’s High School Musical franchise, as well as an original series from the Marvel universe.
