California-based brand management company Genius Brands International (GBI) has tapped former DreamWorks Animation Television and Hasbro Studios exec Michael Jaffa to serve as its new general counsel and SVP of business affairs.

Jaffa will oversee negotiations and business transactions across development, production, licensing, financing and distribution for GBI’s catalog, which includes Rainbow Rangers, Llama Llama, Warren Buffet’s Secret Millionaires Club, Thomas Edison’s Secret Lab and Baby Genius. He will also lead business and legal operations for the company’s digital channels, such as the Kid Genius Cartoon Channel, Kid Genius Plus for Amazon and the Baby Genius Channel.

Previously, Jaffa was head of business affairs at DreamWorks Animation Television, where he negotiated and drafted development, production, acquisition, talent, digital and music agreements. Prior to that, he was VP of legal and business affairs at Hasbro Studios.

Jaffa’s appointment follows shortly after Genius Brands named former DHX Media exec Mark Shoeman as its new global distribution director.
