With 43 nominations spanning various preschool, family and children’s categories, Netflix received the most kid-friendly nods from the US National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences for the 2018 Daytime Emmy Awards. The SVOD giant, which garnered seven more kids and family nominations over last year’s haul of 36 nods, saw the most recognition for DreamWorks Animation’s All Hail King Julien (pictured), A StoryBots Christmas and Free Rein.
Other nominated Netflix series include The Mr. Peabody and Sherman Show, Trollhunters, Puss in Book: Trapped in an Epic Tale, DreamWorks Voltron Legendary Defender, Skylanders Academy, VeggieTales in the City, Julie’s Greenroom, Buddy Thunderstruck, Project MC2, The Adventures of Puss in Boots, Dragons: Race to the Edge, Beat Bugs: All Together Now, and Dinotrux.
Amazon, meanwhile, received 30 children’s nominations (five more from 2017), thanks to series including Dino Dana and Annedroids, both from Toronto-based Sinking Ship Entertainment. Rounding out the top three broadcasters in the kids genre is Disney, with 26 nominations this year (up from 22 in 2017). Nominations were handed to House of Mouse fare like Vampirina, Doc McStuffins and Puppy Dog Pals.
Overall, CBS received the most total nominations (66) for adult-skewing shows like The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful, with Netflix and Amazon coming in second and third with 51 and 49 total noms, respectively.
The 45th annual Daytime Emmy Awards will take place on April 29 at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in California. The Daytime Creative Arts Emmy Awards Gala will be held on April 27 at the same location.
