London distributor Timeless Films has picked up global rights to Koati, a new family film created and produced by Anabella Sosa-Dovarganes (Upstairs and Los Hijos de Jack Productions) and directed by Rodrigo Perez-Castro (Ferdinand, Rio 2). Starring Modern Family‘s Sofia Vergara, Koati is set to make its debut at next month’s Cannes International Film Festival.
Vergara is also on board to executive produce alongside Luis Balaguer, Diego Urbano, Chris Zimmer, Jose Nacif, Melissa Escobar, Upstairs Productions, Latin WE and Timeless Films.
The hand-drawn, 2D-animated film follows a coati (a long-tailed South American animal that’s a part of the raccoon family), a glass frog and a monarch butterfly as they stop a coral snake (Vergara) from destroying their homeland. It is slated for global delivery in 2019.
