Virtual reality experiences for Boggle, Trivial Pursuit and Monopoly will launch in the Oculus Rooms app for Oculus Go beginning in June.

Rhode Island-based toymaker Hasbro has partnered with Oculus to launch virtual reality experiences based on its classic board games.

VR versions of Boggle, Trivial Pursuit and Monopoly will be available in 23 countries where the Oculus Rooms app is available for Oculus Go. Boggle will launch in June, followed by Trivial Pursuit and Monopoly later this year. In addition to playing real-time games of Boggle with up to four people, users can also strengthen their word-searching skills in Solo Mode between matches.

The launch is part of a major update for Oculus Rooms, an app that allows friends to enjoy social activities—like playing games and watching TV—in VR mode. Through Oculus Rooms, users will be able to play the classic board games with avatars in customized environments with personal touches (such as their own photos).

The high-tech update follows a difficult first quarter for Hasbro’s Gaming segment. The category saw declines of 22% (down to US$105.2 million) in Q1 2018, following a decline of 4% for US$343.3 million in Q4 2017. Hasbro’s Gaming segment was a significant contributor to growth throughout 2017, however, due in large part to social media-driven games like Pie Face and Fantastic Gymnastics.
