Nickelodeon has given the greenlight to Man of the House (working title), a new animated series from Norman Lear’s Act III Productions.

The show, which will be overseen by Nickelodeon’s newly appointed animation development VP, Claudia Spinelli (pictured), centers around 11-year-old hip-hop enthusiast José as he helps his mother look after his two younger siblings. (Formerly VP of current series at Nickelodeon, Spinelli will oversee the development pipeline of all new animated content and identify potential creators, showrunners, writers and directors.)

Man of the House’s creative concept was developed by Colombian-American writer and illustrator Michael Molina (Trivia Night), and both Lear (All in the Family, The Jeffersons) and Brent Miller (One Day at a Time) serve as executive producers. Founded in 1985 by Lear, ACT III Productions is behind popular films including Stand by Me, The Princess Bride and Fried Green Tomatoes.

The order comes as Nickelodeon continues to ramp up its development slate, having just recently renewed four of its top-ranked preschool programs. Greenlights were given earlier this week for PAW Patrol season six, Blaze and the Monster Machines season five, Rusty Rivets season three, and Top Wing season two.
