Canada’s Corus Entertainment has revealed five brand-new original kids series and added a raft of previously announced shows to its 2018/19 programming lineup, including a pair of Nelvana preschool series and a live-action family comedy from Breakthrough Entertainment in association with Nickelodeon.

For family-friendly YTV, 20 x half-hour Star Falls from Breakthrough and Nick follows the comedic misadventures of a mother and daughter whose lives get complicated when a big Hollywood movie production takes over their small town. The series, which was greenlit last November, is expected to bow this September.

Previously announced Go Away Unicorn! from Corus-owned producer Nelvana and Sonar Entertainment in association with Disney is also slated for YTV this fall. Based on the book of the same name by Emily Mullock, the 52 x 11-minute series follows a girl named Alice and her unicorn as they go on adventures and learn about friendship.

This November, meanwhile, Teletoon and French-language Télétoon will premiere the 2 x 11-minute first season of Spaceman & Robotron, an original sci-fi adventure series produced by showrunner Luckas Cardona that follows a human kidnapped by aliens and his AI-driven bionic spacesuit.

In September, the new previously announced series heading to Teletoon include 52 x 11-minute Cupcake & Dino: General Services from eOne in association with Netflix, and 26 x half-hour Bravest Warriors from Nelvana and Frederator.

Teletoon also has a pair of new series lined up for October, previously announced Total DramaRama (formerly Total Drama Daycare) and 20 x half-hour Chop Chop Ninja from Montreal, Quebec-based Sardine Productions. The former is a 52 x 11-minute prequel from Toronto’s Fresh TV in partnership with Cartoon Network that ages down Total Drama‘s teenagers to toddlers. The latter, which was originally greenlit in March 2016, is based on a mobile short series that follows the antics of a clumsy ninja-in-training and his friends as they protect their island home from a villainous organization.

As for Corus’ Treehouse, three original series will premiere on the preschool network later this year. Snow Snaps (26 x 11 minutes and 52 x five minutes) from Montreal’s CarpeDiem is scheduled for September and follows the prodco’s hit animated feature film Snowtime!. Two years ago, Snow Snaps was the first Canadian submission ever pitched at Cartoon Forum in Toulouse, France.

For October, Nelvana’s new live-action preschool series Miss Persona (52 x three minutes) will debut. The series follows an industrious young lady who solves problems through imaginative dress-up role playing. Also on the slate is another Nelvana series, 40 x 11-minute Corn & Peg (pictured). Produced in association with Nickelodeon and launching later this year, the series follows a young unicorn and pegasus, inseparable best friends who strive to make their Galloping Grove community a better place.

Previously announced Nelvana/Sesame Workshop series Esme & Roy is also included in the Treehouse lineup. The 52 x 11-minute series follows a young girl and her best friend as they babysit monsters in their neighborhood.

In terms of returning series, Treehouse is set to launch the seventh season of Nelvana hit Max & Ruby. Corus’ new programming slate follows Q1 gains in the company’s kids content business driven by a 24% lift in revenue for Nelvana.
