Netflix has greenlit a second season of Genius Brands International’s animated preschool series Llama Llama. TheĀ streamer and GBI are also currently developing two new half-hour specials, including one for Mother’s Day.

Following the success of its worldwide premiere in 20 different languages in January, Jennifer Garner is returning to the lead role of Mama Llama. Season two will be produced by Jane Starz (Ella Enchanted, Tuck Everlasting), Andy Heyward (Inspector Gadget, Carmen Sandiego) and Reed Duncan. Joe Purdy (Arthur, Hey Arnold!) serves as the head writer and Ruben Aquino (Frozen, The Lion King, Aladdin, Mulan) as art director.

Based on the bestselling book series by author and illustrator Anna Dewdney, the preschool series centers around the connection between Llama, his Mama and his grandparents in their friendly town. The book series has sold 20 million units worldwide, and all of the titles have been New York Times bestsellers and translated into eight languages.

Recently GBI expanded the licensing efforts for the 15 x 30-minuteĀ series, with plans to roll out a new range of consumer products later this year following its debut on Netflix. The new licensing partners included a collaboration with Kids Preferred on a line of Llama Llama plush.
