Fortnite continues its consumer products push

Epic Games is partnering with McFarlane Toys to launch a line of collectible figurines, accessories and resin statues inspired by the hit gaming franchise.

Arizona-based McFarlane Toys and Epic Games are pressing play on a range of Fortnite-inspired toys. The line, which will include collectible figurines, accessories and resin statues, will launch with major retailers this fall.

Fortnite: Battle Royale launched on Microsoft Windows, macOS, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in September before making its iOS debut in April. Since it first bowed, the game has grown to include hundreds of character options, and McFarlane Toys’ upcoming range will feature both new and ‘classic’ looks from the franchise.

The agreement was brokered by IMG, Fortnite’s exclusive worldwide agency for consumer products licensing and promotions, which signed on to represent the brand at the end of May.

Earlier this month, Florida-based toyco Jazwares partnered with Epic Games to create a Fortnite toy range set to hit shelves in December. The line will include true-to-game figures, playsets, game-replica weapons and tools, plush, vehicles, Domez, loot boxes and environments. Last week, New Jersey-based retailers Spirit Halloween and Spencer’s inked an agreement with Epic Games to launch a range of costumes, cosplay, accessories and gear inspired by the video game franchise.

Fortnite: Battle Royale drops 100 players onto an island, where they can fight it out in a battle royale or team up to defeat a horde of monsters. According to recent data from research firm SuperData, Fortnite crossed the US$1 billion revenue mark in July and, if its sales were removed from Q2 2018, console gaming revenue would have dropped 6% compared to the same period last year.
