Global streaming giant Netflix has hired former Nickelodeon International animation VP Alexi Wheeler to join its kids and family international originals team.
Wheeler will be starting at Netflix in September in an undisclosed role on the team and based out of its London office, the streamer confirmed to Kidscreen.
Previously, he served in various roles at Nickelodeon, working his way up from programming manager in 2010 to manager, then director, then senior director, and finally VP of animation production and development at Nickelodeon International.
Prior to his time at Nick, Wheeler served as a development exec at Rubber Duck Entertainment and as a producer for eOne Family. He has produced more than 250 hours of content aimed at preschoolers and six- to 12-year-olds. Wheeler was also responsible for implementing the Nickelodeon International Shorts Program and the International Preschool Shorts Initiative.
His credits include Peppa Pig, Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom, Nella the Princess Knight, and Fireman Sam.
Netflix has been diving into more international kids series, recently announcing that it would be adapting a popular Dutch medieval adventure novel for kids entitled The Letter for the King into a Netflix Original series for kids and families. It also jumped on board a new original kids fantasy series The Dragon Prince, with top talent from Nickelodeon’s Avatar: The Last Airbender.
