California-based brand management company Genius Brands International has raised US$4.5 million in a funding round led by 32 Ventures.
The financing—which included participation from both existing and new investors—was convertible debt. 32 Ventures is the private investment arm of 32 Advisors, a boutique advisory firm founded by Robert Wolf.
The funds are expected to support the premiere of Genius Brands’ preschool series Rainbow Rangers, as well as pre-production on the show’s second season. The 52 x 11-minute CGI toon follows the adventures of seven girls working to save the environment using their unique personalities and powers.
Rainbow Rangers is set to debut on Nickelodeon’s Nick Jr. in November, and a toy range from Mattel-owned Fisher-Price will hit shelves in spring 2019.
Additional licensing partners on board include Bentex Group (apparel), Gershwin Entertainment (live touring), Bioworld (bags and backpacks) and T.A.S.T.E. Beauty (health and beauty products). Altogether, more than 20 licensees are part of the program for the preschool property.
Earlier this month, Genius Brands entered into a content partnership with YouTube creator WatchMojo. The agreement will see WatchMojo content roll out on Genius Brands Network’s Kid Genius channel, while animated content from Genius Brands launches on WatchMojo’s JrMojo YouTube channel.
