Aussie prodco BES Animation has greenlit a second season of its animated children’s series Kitty is Not a Cat, targeting a mid-2020 completion date.

BES will start to introduce the latest season to the international market at MIP Junior next month, and has plans to develop a consumer products and licensing program for the IP moving forward. London-based Jetpack Distribution is handling global distribution, with UniCreative managing rights in China.

The 52 x 11-minute comedy series is aimed at six-to 10-year-olds and is all about Kitty, a girl who decides it would be more fun to live as a cat than as a human.

The second-season announcement comes as BES continues to grow its distribution reach around the world. Kitty is Not a Cat debuted in May on Australian free-to-air network 7TWO and Seven Network’s streaming service 7PLUS. It is now airing in 65 territories, including on Disney Channel in multiple countries and Italy’s DeAKids, and has been translated into 25 languages worldwide.

BES recently appointed ValleyArm Digital to initiate a global digital content strategy for the 2D-animated series on its YouTube channel and other social/digital platforms.
