Former Fox Television Group COO Joe Earley (pictured) is exiting his current role as president of The Jackal Group to lead marketing and operations for the forthcoming direct-to-consumer subscription video platform, Disney+.
Reporting to Disney+ content and marketing president Ricky Strauss, the service’s new EVP of marketing and operations will work closely with the customer acquisition marketing group for Disney+, which is expected to launch in late 2019. He will also oversee programming-related operations for Disney-owned groups including Walt Disney Studios, Disney-ABC TV Group, Pixar Animation, Marvel and Lucasfilm, as well as third-party entities.
Former ABC exec Agnes Chu will remain in her position as SVP of content for the service.
Earley most recently served as president of The Jackal Group (The Immortalists), where he oversaw the production studio’s TV, film, commercial theater and digital divisions. Previously, he worked for two decades at Fox, most recently as chief operating officer for Fox Television Group overseeing marketing and communications, digital, research, talent relations, scheduling and audience strategy. Prior to this, he was COO of Fox Broadcasting Company.
The new marketing chief joins a growing list of 21st Century Fox execs who have moved over to Disney following the media giant’s acquisition of Fox, which is expected to close before March 1. Most recently, Emma Watts became vice chairman of Twentieth Century Fox Film and president of production for Twentieth Century Fox under Disney’s entertainment management team, while Nancy Utley and Stephen Gilula are serving as chairmen of Fox Searchlight Pictures.
Once the Fox acquisition is complete, current Fox president and Fox Networks Group CEO Peter Rice will become chairman of Walt Disney Television and co-chair of Disney Media Networks. And Fox Television Group CEO and chairman Dana Walden will assume the chairman’s role for Disney Television Studios and ABC Entertainment.
