Washington-based pop culture collectible-maker Funko has partnered with New York’s Sterling Publishing to put out a series of children’s book based on its own IP. Using the designs and characters from its Wetmore Forest IP, the books for ages eight to 12 will be sold online and in-store at US bookstore Barnes & Noble starting in June.
Both Sterling and Funko will showcase the books at the upcoming London and Bologna Children’s Book Fairs, and each book will also come with accompanying Funko merchandise.
Featuring characters inspired by the collectable-maker’s well-known Pop! figurines, Wetmore Forest depicts an enchanted green space with monsters like Bugsy Wingnut, Tumblebee, Butterhorn and Snuggletooth. The line of toys that the books are based on originally launched last August and includes three product lines of Pop!, plush and keychains. At the same time, Funko Animation Studios also began producing a series of online videos based on the characters.
Funko Animation Studios was created in late 2017 when the toyco acquired UK-based animation company A Large Evil Corporation, which it had previously worked with on a series of Marvel shorts.
