Netflix has grabbed worldwide streaming rights—excluding China, Benelux, Turkey, France—to I Lost My Body, a new animated film for teens and adults from Oggy and the Cockroaches producer Xilam Animation.

Based on the 2006 novel Happy Hand by author/screenwriter Guillaume Laurant (Amelie, A Very Long Engagement), the 2D- and 3D-animated movie follows a severed hand’s journey through Paris to reunite with the young man it was once attached to. Director Jérémy Clapin (Skhizein) and Laurant adapted the story to screen, while Xilam’s CEO Marc du Pontavice produced it.

I Lost My Body is coming off its worldwide premiere at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival where it won best film in the independent International Critics’ Week portion of the annual fest.

Its arrival furthers Xilam’s expansion into CGI animation. With the goal of making half of its slate 3D-animated, the French prodco recently greenlit its first CGI-animated preschool series Oggy Oggy, based on its classic 2D comedy Oggy and the CockroachesI Lost My Body, though, is not Xilam’s first venture into CGI features. It previously produced Kaena: The Prophecy in 2003.

Netflix, meanwhile, continues to eye European animated features. In February, it picked up writer/director Juan Antin’s animated feature film Pachamama and will debut the movie next month.
