Xilam names YouTube, AVOD lead

Charles Courcier is charged with creating original content for streaming platforms as the studio's first head of digital production.

Oggy and the Cockroaches producer Xilam Animation has appointed Charles Courcier to the newly created position of head of digital production to bolster its YouTube and AVOD business.

The former digital production head of Millimages subsidiary Amuse will be tasked with sourcing, developing, financing and producing original animated YouTube series for kids and adults. He will also look to expand the studio’s footprint across AVOD platforms.

Courcier joined the company in April, according to his LinkedIn account. He reports to global sales development EVP Morgann Favennec at Xilam’s head office in Paris.

During his tenure at Amuse, Courcier oversaw the company’s global business strategy for digital production and distribution. He also built the company’s internal studio and developed the production pipeline for all of its 3D-animated web series. Prior to Amuse, Courcier served as a marketing and licensing assistant at Gaumont Animation and a production assistant at Sacrebleu Productions.

His appointment comes as Xilam is experiencing an uptick in digital growth. According the company, the May launch of its YouTube channel for preschool series Paprika helped drive Xilam to 10 million subscribers across all of its YouTube channels. The company’s Oggy and the Cockroaches channel in India has also generated 600,000 subscribers and more than 150 million views to date. According to Xilam’s 2018 financial results, AVOD platforms including YouTube account for 27% of the company’s catalogue revenue, which increased 26% to US$11 million last year.
