Sony Pictures Television Networks UK (SPTN) has picked up Sadie Sparks and Gigantosaurus from Cyber Group Studios for its Pop and Tiny Pop free-to-air children’s channels, respectively.
The deal marks the first time the 52 x 11-minute shows will broadcast on free-to-air channels in the UK. Premiere dates are expected in the second quarter of 2020.
Aimed at six to 10-year-olds, Sadie Sparks is a 2D and CG-animated supernatural comedy featuring a 14-year-old girl with magical powers who juggles high school life with her role as a wizard-in-training. The series is created and directed by Bronagh O’Hanlon and produced in partnership with Brown Bag Films’ Dublin studio. Disney Channel EMEA is rolling it out this year.
Meanwhile, CG-animated action-comedy preschool series Gigantosaurus follows the prehistoric tales of four young dinosaur friends. It’s based on a same-name book by Jonny Duddle. Disney Junior acquired the series for worldwide broadcast (excluding India and Taiwan) in 2017. Since then, it’s been snapped up by France TV, Germany’s Super RTL, Italy’s Rai Yoyo and on Netflix (nearly global).
The deals follow the UK free-TV debut of Toei Animation’s Dragon Ball Super, which launched on SPTN’s Pop channel on July 1.
