As Amazon shifts away from producing original kids content, M6 is swooping in and adding a lineup of its brands—including GulliMax, Canal J and TiJi—as an Amazon Prime Video Channel in France.
These channels recently merged when owner M6 Groupe acquired Lagardère Active’s free-to-air digital kidsnet Gulli, two pay-TV channels for young viewers (Canal J, for ages six to 12, and Tiji for kids ages three to six) and its on-demand channels. The acquisition was part of M6’s strategic plan to increase advertising and digital revenue, strengthen its family content and grow internationally.
The GulliMax SVOD includes complete seasons of Gormiti, BeyBlade, Kally’s Mashup and Maya the Bee. Canal J offers Pokémon, Bakugan and Power Rangers, while TiJi’s programming includes Barbie, LilyBuds, My Little Pony, Arthur and The Care Bears.
All three of the M6 channels will be available through the Prime Video app, smart TVs, iOS and Android mobile devices, Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick to Amazon Prime members in France. Amazon Prime members will have access to the kids channels for free for the first month, after which they will have to pay an additional monthly fee.
For Amazon, this comes only shortly after it pulled out of making its own original content except for programming aimed at families and tweens.
But in France, the kids streaming space is starting to get a bit crowded as free-to-air channel France 4 is planning to shut down next year and migrate all of its content to digital distribution only. France Télévisions, meanwhile, is releasing its own kid-focused SVOD Okoo in December.
