Brazilian kidsnet Gloob will premiere its first original primetime sitcom, Bugados (internationally titled Game Crashers) today.
The 52 x 26-minute live-action/VFX series for ages six to 10 is a co-production between Gloob, São Paulo-based Scriptonita Films and Sony-owned Forest Productions.
Co-created by Luca Paiva Mello (Julie and the Phantoms) and André Catarinacho, the series unfolds when three video game superheroes—tired of saving the world over and over—trade in their digital life for real-world high school adventures. Comedic situations play out in each standalone episode as the protagonists must hide their true identities from the general school population with the help of two gamer students who discover and befriend them.
Scriptonita’s Roberto Martha (Julie and the Phantoms) is executive producing, while Fabrício Bittar is the show’s director.
According to Tatiana Costa, executive director of Globosat’s kids division, the show is part of a larger drive into comedic content to increase eyeballs and meet audience demand. Along with new primetime shows, the channel recently built a daytime comedy slot.
“We just launched animated series Gigablaster on it and it is performing really well so far,” said Costa at MIPCOM last week in Cannes.
The move into sitcoms comes on the heels of longtime Gloob head of kids Paula Taborda dos Guaranys departing. Costa is currently evaluating the team’s structure and will decide on the next steps for the channel.
