Disney Junior is getting ready to hatch the latest bird-based kids show. Currently under production, The Chicken Squad is set to debut next year and is inspired by Doreen Cronin’s popular book series of the same name.
The animated preschool series features a trio of young chicken siblings solving problems in their backyard with a focus on teamwork and critical thinking skills.
Produced by (the appropriately named) Wild Canary in association with Disney Junior, the show is executive produced by Tom Rogers (Elena of Avalor). Rachel Ruderman (Sofia the First) serves as story editor, while Tony Trujillo (FarmVille 2) is the art director and Scott Bern (Puppy Dog Pals) is the supervising director.
And, apparently, birds of a feather really do flock together. The Chicken Squad joins a number of fowl-focused shows hitting screens, including Bejuba! Entertainment and GraveRobber’s animated comedy Chicken Big, Animasia Studio’s action-adventure Chuck Chicken and DreamWorks Animated Television’s Netflix show Archibald’s Next Big Thing.
In other House of Mouse news, Disney Channel ordered the live-action mystery series Sulphur Springs from writer and executive producer Tracey Thomson. The show is set at an abandoned (and, it turns out, haunted) hotel, which the Campbell family plans to restore into a vacation destination. Production on the 11-episode series is set to begin in New Orleans in 2020, and Chuck Pratt (Star) will serve as showrunner and executive producer.
