Dr. Seuss grows retail, eco efforts with new hire

Longtime LEGO manager Tatjana Blanusa will secure new licensing partners and develop enviro-friendly initiatives.
November 5, 2019

Dr. Seuss Enterprises hired Tatjana Blanusa as director of global licensing and retail development to secure new licensing partners and grow the company’s international sales. Reporting to VP of global licensing, marketing and communications Julie Dill, Blanusa will also plan and develop environmentally friendly initiatives and collaborations (though the entertainment company has not yet made specific details on these initiatives available).

Blanusa joins Dr. Seuss from The LEGO Group, where she most recently served as senior manager of brand partnerships and held several roles across sales and customer marketing with the Danish brickmaker.

Dr. Seuss Enterprises has kept busy this year, growing its brands and bringing on new talent. On October 25, the company brought in former BBC exec Dill to move it into new consumer products categories. The company recently launched The Dr. Seuss Experience, an event space in Toronto created with LA-based Kilburn Live, and also rolled out new consumer products for Dr. Seuss’s latest “lost book” Horse Museum.

There’s also been a growing demand among kids for eco-friendly products and offerings, with a recent Viacom survey finding that among 5,724 kids ages six to 11 in 30 countries, 74% of children say they care “a lot” about the environment and 45% worry they aren’t doing enough to protect it. Hasbro is among the toymakers responding to these concerns, recently unveiling plans to phase out plastic from its product packaging starting next year and eliminating almost all plastic for new products by 2022.
