Saddle up, because Hasbro is launching new content and consumer products for its My Little Pony franchise. The redesign plays up the ponies’ sweetness and sense of humor, with smaller bodies and larger heads than previous iterations.
My Little Pony: Pony Life will bow in 2020 on Discovery Family and Discovery Family GO. The animated series is produced by Hasbro’s Allspark Animation. The tone will be more playful and experimental than the previous My Little Pony iteration, Friendship is Magic, which wrapped up its ninth and final season this year, and focused more on moral-driven storylines.
Additionally, short-form content will be available on the My Little Pony YouTube channel and a new movie inspired by the ponies is set to hit screens in 2021.
Consumer products inspired by the brand’s new look will hit shelves with major retailers later this year. The first figures are available online now through Amazon and target kids ages three and up. The My Little Pony Magical Mane Rarity figure and the My Little Pony Potion Ponies figures come with styling accessories and include unboxing play patterns or interactive features like hair that changes color when sprayed with ice water.
The decision to revamp My Little Pony comes as Hasbro continues to expand the franchise’s reach into new categories. Earlier this year, the toyco partnered with Malaysia-based real estate company Meridian Berhad to launch a themed water park featuring NERF, Monopoly and My Little Pony. At the same time, Hasbro is taking the equestrian brand to the stage with a live musical production set to launch March 2020. The My Little Pony Live show will feature an original story and new songs.
