Disney+ has hired former AMC programming exec Chris Loveall (pictured) as VP of content, international. Reporting to Matt Brodlie, Disney+’s SVP of international content development, Loveall will work with Disney’s direct-to-consumer and international teams to develop and produce original scripted and unscripted series, as well as acquisitions for all markets outside of the US.

Before joining Disney, Loveall was the VP of international programming for AMC Networks, where he oversaw development of original international commissions and co-productions for AMC, SundanceTV and BBC America. Some of his credits include ITV’s Liar and Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s Rosehaven and Cleverman.

Prior to his time at AMC, Loveall was the VP of original programming at the now-defunct US cable network Pivot, where he developed scripted comedy, drama and animation projects and oversaw international co-pros, including Please Like Me with Australia’s ABC. He also held a number of programming roles at ABC Signature Studios and the CW network.

Disney+ launched in the US, Canada, Netherlands and Australia earlier this month and went on to earn 10 million subscribers in the US after its first 24 hours, according to Disney. With so many eyes turning to the streamer and its plans to launch new original content, Disney+ is becoming an important space for the industry to watch and Kidscreen has created a kids industry guide to the service to help navigate this new player.
