MPAC launches children’s screenwriters lab

Muslim writers are invited to submit a kids show script for a chance to participate in the workshop.
January 6, 2020

The Hollywood bureau of advocacy group the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) is partnering with children’s media company Practice Wonder to launch a children’s media screenwriting lab this February. Muslim screenwriters can submit an original pilot script for either a live-action or animated episodic series for kids five to 12.

Aimed at Muslim writers pursuing a career in Hollywood, the lab includes getting a script reviewed by industry leaders, learning how to pitch a show and networking opportunities. Applicants are chosen based on the quality of their script and its fit for children. Scripts can be submitted via MPAC’s website and there is a US$25 submission fee. Submissions are due by January 10 and the lab will be held on February 20.

In the past two years the advocacy group has hosted labs on TV comedy, TV drama and feature films, in partnership with Disney/ABC Television Group, Wise Entertainment and Wayfarer Entertainment. MPAC selected 19 Muslim screenwriters to participate across the three labs. MPAC’s Hollywood bureau is focused on growing the entertainment industry’s inclusion of Muslims both on and behind the camera.
