VPRO taps new head of kids content

Juliette van Paridon joins the broadcaster with a remit to create shows for kids 12 and under.

Dutch public broadcaster VPRO has hired Juliëtte van Paridon as its head of children’s content. In her new role, she will oversee development of original kids TV shows for linear and VOD platforms. She started in the job this week, and is responsible for developing live action programs for kids 12 and under.

Paridon joins the broadcaster following a period of growth last year. It picked up season one (52 x seven minutes) and two (104 x seven minutes) of animated preschool series Emmy and Gooroo, and pre-purchased Magic Light Pictures 30-minute animated family film The Snail and the WhaleVPRO also won the International Kids Emmy for best kids animation in April for co-pro Kop Op (Heads Together), which it made with Viking Film and Dutch animation studio Job, Joris & Marieke.

Prior to joining VPRO, she worked as the editor in chief and format developer for education-focused Dutch broadcaster NTR, in its kids department. While there, she created teen comedy series The Dokter Corrie Show about sexuality, which was adapted in Belgium on VRT-owned kids channel Ketnet as The Dokter Bea Show. The educational the format is also being made in Canada and Australia, according to van Paridon.

This is the second departure from NTR in recent months; after the pubcaster’s head of business Hedda Bruessing left in November to take on the newly created role of head of media and business development at Netherlands public broadcaster BNNVARA.
