Former Scholastic editor Janna Morishima has launched a literary and illustration agency focused on children’s graphic novels. Janna Co. represents 22 artists, authors and production studios.

Morishima inked two new books deals, including the middle school graphic novel Bounce Back by manga artist Misako Rocks! (pictured). The title is slated for release in fall 2021 and was signed by Liz Szabla of Feiwel and Friends at Macmillan.

Previously, Morishima also served as director of Diamond Kids Group, as director of marketing for Papercutz and as a publishing and design consultant.

The new agency arrives as more books are being adapted for screens both big and small. Recent efforts include Awesome Media & Entertainment’s deal to develop The Last Wish of Sasha Cade for television, and Thunderbird Entertainment’s upcoming limited series based on The Marrow Thief.

Netflix in particular is banking on books, with an upcoming live-action series inspired by The Baby-Sitters Club books and an animated film based on Thelma the Unicorn. It also purchased the comic book publisher Millarworld in 2017 in a push for more superhero content.
