WarnerMedia’s upcoming SVOD HBO Max has greenlit three-part animated miniseries Aquaman: King of Atlantis. James Wan (The Conjuring, Saw, Aquaman) is executive producing the new series through his prodco Atomic Monster.
Based on the classic DC character created by Mort Weisinger and Paul Norris, each episode will be a standalone story about the adventures of Aquaman, including his first day as the king of Atlantis. It is produced by Warner Bros. Animation, and will be executive produced by Atomic Monster’s Michael Clear (Annabelle Comes Home), Rob Hackett (Swamp Thing), and Sam Register (Teen Titans Go!). The showrunners and co-executive producers are Marly Halpern-Graser (Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) and Victor Courtright (ThunderCats Roar!)
HBO Max is set to launch in May with 10,000 hours of content, including several new original series from Cartoon Network Studios and Warner Bros. Animation for kids. CNS is producing The Fungies and Tig N’ Seek, while WBA is hard at work on a half-hour, hybrid live-action and animated comedy called Tooned Out. Led by Jennifer O’Connell, the kids team has also picked up live-action shows Karma and Craftopia.
