LA-based prodco Splash Entertainment has promoted its director of performance capture Pete Young to the newly created director of development role. Young started the job this month, and oversees the animation studio’s slate of kids and family content, with the goal of growing the company’s audience and reach.
Young now manages Splash’s animated projects, including a reimagined version of Woody Woodpecker as well as R.L. Stine’s The Little Shop of Monsters and R.L. Stine’s Rotten School, inspired by the writer’s book series—which the studio optioned last May. Reporting to Splash’s co-CEOs Mike Young (his father) and Steve Rosen, he’s also leading the development of upcoming animated shows NitWitz, The Legend of Hairy Butter and the feature film Littlest Robot.
Prior to his promotion Young managed the performance capture on Splash’s feature films Norm of the North (90 minutes), Rock Dog (two x 90 minutes) and Mariah Carey’s All I want For Christmas is You (90 minutes).
Before joining Splash, Young co-founded LA-based prodco Joovie Entertainment, which developed and produced preschool shows such as SputnikRED, Tiny Robot Factory and The Tree House Club. While at Joovie, he worked with Splash Entertainment to produce the mixed-media edutainment series Oh Yuck! (26 x half-hours), which airs on Splash Entertainment-owned VOD platform Kabillion.
Splash is working to grow its business segments this year, and just last week its subsidiary VOD platform Kabillion upped its VP of programming Stevan Levy to the president of programming and operations role, with a remit to grow the service’s reach. In his new role Levy is looking to acquire new programming for the platform, which is something that Young could help drive going forward since around 30% to 40% of the platform’s content comes from Splash, Levy said.
