Nickelodeon, TIME and TIME for Kids are joining forces to name the first-ever Kid of the Year, in the vein of TIME’s Person of the Year award. The multi-platform initiative will run all year long and includes a TV special fronted by talk show host Trevor Noah (pictured), which will be simulcast on Nick and CBS in the US.

The special will air in December and recognize five young leaders making an impact on their communities, culminating in naming the TIME Kid of the Year. The winning kid will be featured in companion stories in TIME and TIME for Kids. All honorees will have an opportunity to write for the Time for Kids website.

Details of the nomination and submission process will be announced at a later date.

Kid of the Year is a co-production of TIME Studios, Day Zero Productions, Mainstay Entertainment and Nickelodeon. Executive producers include Andrea Delbanco (TIME for Kids), Ian Orefice and Mike Beck (TIME Studios), Trevor Noah and Haroon Saleem (Day Zero Productions), Norm Aladjem, Derek Van Pelt and Sanaz Yamin (Mainstay Entertainment) and Rob Bagshaw and Paul Medford (Nickelodeon). Production is overseen by Bagshaw.

Alongside this announcement, Nickelodeon has also greenlit Side Hustle, a new live-action buddy comedy starring social media stars Annie LeBlanc and Jayden Bartels. The multi-cam show follows best friends Lex (LeBlanc) and Presley (Bartels) who have to create a business after inadvertently destroying their neighbor’s car.

It’s created and EP’d by Dave Malkoff (Henry Danger, Sam & Cat, Victorious) and shot in front of a live studio audience. The 13 x 30-minute series begins production in LA in March with a premiere later this year.

Jon Beck and Ron Hart (Fuller House, Liv & Maddie) are EPs and showrunners, while production is overseen by SVP of live-action scripted Shauna Phelan, and Omar Camacho serves as executive in charge of production.
