Disney Channels shuffles execs

The company has promoted 10 into VP and SVP positions, including Khaki Jones and Emily Hart, who are taking leadership roles on Disney+ content, while Alyssa Sapire takes charge of the entire Junior development slate.

Disney Channels has promoted 10 of its execs into the SVP and VP ranks on the current series, original programming and development teams.

In the current series department, Khaki Jones has been promoted to SVP, from VP, and is now responsible for supervising current content for all series and short-form content produced internally at Disney TV Animation and third-party studios. This includes series for all three of Disney’s linear channels and Disney+. Meanwhile, Eric Bjorklund has been promoted to VP of current series. Before this, Bjorklund served as executive director of programming. Diane Ikemiyashiro, an executive director for Disney Junior since 2014, has been promoted to VP of current series.

Former VP of original programming Alyssa Sapire (pictured, right) has been upped to SVP, and will be responsible for the Disney Junior development slate and has day-to-day creative oversight of current series for preschoolers. Also in programming, Claire McCabe has been elevated from head of alternative programming to VP. She is overseeing the growing development and production of alternative series and specials, such as live events and non-scripted programming.

Over on the development side, Emily Hart (pictured, left) has been elevated to SVP of development, moving over from the original programming side where she has been VP since 2014, first for Disney Junior then for Disney TV Animation. Now she has oversight of the creative and artistic development team at TVA and is accountable for the pipeline for all animated content at TVA for Disney Channels and Disney+. Former executive director of original series Rafael Garcia is now VP of development. Jermaine Turner is also moving from executive director at Disney TVA to VP of development.

In production, Sarah Finn has been promoted to VP of production, overseeing all of Disney Junior’s original animated TV series and shorts. from executive director of production.

Finally, Vicki Ariyasu has been upped from VP to the role of SVP of educational resource group & inclusion. This new combined role will have her working closely with the development teams to inform curriculum based on national educational stands, new tech and cultural trends. She is also leading Disney Channel’s work in social responsibility, diversity and inclusion.

In other Disney news, Marvel Studios is working with Québec City-based animation studio Squeeze on new animated series What If..? for Disney+. Scheduled to be released in summer 2021, it’s the first animated series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
