Deals of the Week: Gutsy, Cloudco, Silvergate

Lina's World gets a distributor, popular puppet Topo Gigio is turned into a show, and the Care Bears, Find Me in Paris and Octonauts fly into new territories.

PGS

Paris-based distributor PGS Entertainment has inked a number of new broadcast deals for Finnish studio Gutsy Animations’ Moominvalley (26 x 22-minutes). Commissioned by YLE (Finland), Sky (UK) and NHK (Japan), new broadcasters to pick up the 3D/CG-animated series include France Télévisions, ZDF (Germany), RAI (Italy), NPO ZAPP (Netherlands), RTS (Switzerland), Czech TV (Czech Republic), ERR (Estonia), MTVA (Hungary), RTP (Portugal), Once Nino (Mexico), Canal+ & Puls TV (Poland), Medialaan (Belgium), Kidzone (Baltics), Talit & Noga (Israel) and Jeem TV (UAE).

PGS Entertainment picked up the show’s global distribution rights in May 2019, and is the distributor of the series everywhere excluding the UK, Finland, Japan, South Korea and China.

Cloudco Entertainment

Nickelodeon Latin American has picked up Cloudco Entertainment’s 2D-animated show Care Bears: Unlock the Magic from Florida-based distributor Spiral International.

Nick launched the 48 x 11-minute series and two x 22-minute specials on its streaming service Noggin, and on linear channel Nick LatAm on April 1. The series tracks five magical bears who use their powers to spread positive messages wherever they go.

The prodco has also launched new digital brand, Camp Care Bears. It features new videos and printable activities on social media, to support kids and families during the COVID-19 pandemic.

ZED

Paris-based ZED has been tapped as the worldwide distributor for the 2D-animated series Lina’s World (pictured), which explores the origins of Islam, Christianity, and Judaism. Les Batelières Productions, Foliascope Studios and Cinemon Entertainment co-produce the 10 x three-and-a-half minute educational series. Created by Ismaël Saidi, and produced for France Télévisions, the 10- to 15-year-old-skewing series was originally pitched at Cartoon Forum last year, and is now slated for delivery December 2020.

Silvergate Media

Dubai-based kidsnet Spacetoon has signed a deal with New York’s Silvergate Media to air the prodco’s animated preschool series Octonauts. Spacetoon will air the 116 x 11-minute episode show in MENA for the first time. Dubai-based licensing agency 20too brokered the deal, and the show launched last month, marking the first time it’s has been available in the Middle East.

Rai Ragazzi

Rai Ragazzi, Italian pubcaster Rai’s production company, has partnered with Milan-based Movimenti Production, and Italian IP holder Topo Gigio, to produce the 2D-animated preschool series Topo Gigio, about the adventures of the first mouse to live among humans. New York-based Lacey Entertainment has secured the worldwide English-language distribution rights to the new series.

Topo Gigio began life as the character in a puppet on children’s TV in Italy during the ’60s, and has since grown an international fanbase. This is the first Italian animated series about the mouse, and the full 52 x 11-minute series will air on Rai’s preschool channel Rai Yoyo this fall, with the first 13 episodes launched on Rai’s app RaiPlay yesterday.

Federation Kids & Family

Japanese broadcaster NHK has picked up season one of ZDF and Cottonwood Media’s live-action tween series Find Me in Paris from Paris-based distributor Federation Kids & Family. The 26 x half-hour episodes are scheduled to air on NHK’s E-TELE channel on April 10. Revolving around a time-traveling ballet dancer from Russia in 1905 who becomes trapped in modern day Paris, the series is produced by Cottonwood Media, ZDF, ZDF Enterprises, B-FILMS and the Opera National de Paris.
