Horizon Group USA is ready to craft a new future. The New Jersey-based company, which focuses on activity kits and DIY products, named former Mattel exec Janet Hsu as its new CEO.

Hsu will focus on creating opportunities across new categories beginning on July 6. She will take over the role from owner Roshan Wijerama.

Hsu joins Horizon Group USA from Mattel, where she was hired in 2018 as chief franchise management officer. In that role, she was tasked with pursuing untapped commercial opportunities for the toyco’s brands and working to unify content development, distribution, consumer products, digital gaming, live events and strategic partnerships through Mattel’s global franchise management division.

Moving forward, Mattel will integrate the content distribution and content development organizations under Fred Soulie, SVP content distribution and business development. Soulie will now report to president and COO Richard Dickson. According to a Mattel spokesperson, the toyco will also hire a new leader to oversee the franchise management and consumer products division.

Previously, Hsu served as the first-ever CEO of Saban Brands and oversaw Hasbro’s acquisition of a number of Saban Brands’ entertainment properties—including the billion-dollar Power Rangers franchise. Hsu also served as president and COO of Sanrio.
