Wisconsin-based toyco PlayMonster has hired former Mattel and Disney exec Tim Kilpin as president of PlayMonster, to bolster its international growth. Officially starting today, Kilpin is based in Wisconsin and reports to the company’s CEO Bob Wann.
This is a newly created position, with Kilpin now managing the responsibilities that Wann previously held.
Kilpin will focus on expanding the toyco’s sales and business development, with a remit to grow the PlayMonster’s catalogue and reach. The toyco is behind such products as 5 Second Rule, My Fairy Garden and Spirograph.
Prior to joining PlayMonster, Kilpin was the president and CEO of Activision Blizzard’s CP business, overseeing the strategy and creative development of its franchise’s product ranges, a role he held for two years.
Before that, he served as president and chief commercial officer for Mattel for four years, where he directed the company’s sales and market operations, and oversaw partnerships with external partners. He also served as EVP of franchise management at The Walt Disney Company, where he oversaw creation and development of cross-category franchises for Disney’s princesses, Winnie the Pooh, Mickey Mouse and Pixar properties fromĀ 2000 to 2003.
PlayMonster has been busy building its team and catalogue in the past year. It’s hired Richard Gill as VP of international with the goal of growing global business. On the toy side, in November 2019, itĀ acquired Kahootz Toys, in what was its biggest purchase to date. Kahootz is a Michigan-based manufacturer that distributes 17 brands, including Colorforms, Fashion Plates, Latchkits, Play-Doh and Waterfuls.
