Scholastic Entertainment has partnered with Josephson Entertainment and Weed Road Pictures to co-develop and co-produce a new live-action film based on YA book franchise Caster.
Paramount Pictures optioned the films rights to the fantasy-themed books and plans to turn them into its next big franchise for kids 12 and up, according to Scholastic. The film will revolve around a young magician who has to step up and overcome her fears to save her family’s ancient teahouse.
Oscar-winning screenwriter Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind) and Greg Lessans are producing the film, alongside Scholastic Entertainment president Iole Lucchese and SVP and GM Caitlin Friedman. Barry Josephson and D. Matt Geller will oversee production for Josephson Entertainment.
Scholastic has been busy on the live-action adaptation front recently, with a movie based on its Animorphs brand on the go, and a previous partnership with Josephson Entertainment to produce Ghost Squad, adapted from the novel by Claribel Ortega.
