Deals of the Week: WildBrain, CBC, Studio 100

Broadcasters board Bakugan, there's a new game for feuding families, WildBrain Spark says MarcoPolo, and SeaBelievers swims with new representation.

Nelvana 

Toronto-based distributor Nelvana has inked a number of new deals for Spin Master’s animated series Bakugan Battle Planet (100 x 11 minutes) and Bakugan: Armored Alliance (104 x 11 minutes).

New broadcasters and platforms to pick up Bakugan Armored Alliance include Netflix (US and Canada), POP (UK), 9Go! (Australia) and Dreamia (Portugal). Dreamia, Televisa (Mexico), Nelonen Media (Finland), Dexy Co (Serbia) and Talent Show (Croatia) all snagged the rights to air Bakugan: Battle Planet.

The anime-style adventure series revolves around a team of friends who bond with mysterious aliens to protect both Earth and their home planet.

WildBrain Spark

Brit ed tech company MarcoPolo Learning has partnered with WildBrain Spark, which will  exclusively manage its content for three- to seven-year-olds on YouTube. WildBrain Spark will widen the reach of the learning contentwhich includes CG-animated series The Polos (pictured), co-produced by Boat Rocker Studios, Jam Filled Entertainment and Radical Sheep Productions—by identifying new audiences and adding it to its hub channels on YouTube.

Vizio

Ahead of kids returning to school, California smart TV maker Vizio has added a dozen kids streaming channels to its free SmartCast platform. Launching August 14, the new channels include Ameba, Brat TV, Giggle Mug, HappyKids Junior, HappyKids.tv, Kid Gamer TV, Kidoodle.TV, The Official LEGO Channel, SQAD, Tankee Gaming, Toon Goggles and WowNow Kids. Vizio has added more than 100 channels with free content since the lockdown started in the US, and engagement with kids channels has grown by roughly 35% in that same time period, according to the techco.

CBC/Radio-Canada

Canadian pubcaster CBC/Radio-Canada has teamed up with FremantleMedia, Spin Master and Imagination Games to launch a new Family Feud Canada board game exclusively at Walmart Canada stores. Extending Fremantle’s line of Family Feud games, the new title is based on CBC series Family Feud Canada, which premiered December 2019. Available in both English and French, the new game hits retail ahead of the show’s return this fall.

Studio 100 Group

Studio 100 will now distribute the CG-animated SeaBelievers series worldwide, and the German company is planning to shop the 52 x 11-minute eco-focused show at MIPCOM in October. Aimed at kids four to seven, the first of the show’s episodes will be ready for delivery in 2021. The series floats along with a group of characters who use superpowers to protect the sea and solve problems.
