CAKE grows its reach in Asia

Mango TV and True Visions bank on more Pablo, while Mush-Mush and the Mushables sprouted in China.

London distributor CAKE has inked a number of broadcast deals with Asian broadcasters for its catalogue of animated series.

Chinese SVOD Mango TV and Thailand-based broadcaster True Visions picked up the second season of CAKE and Paper Owl’s preschool co-production Pablo (52 x 11 minutes), about an artistic boy on the autism spectrum who uses magic crayons to bring his imagination to life. Pablo, a 2018 Children’s BAFTA nominee, was originally ordered by CBeebies. Since its launch in 2017, the show has been picked up by a number of broadcasters, including Nat Geo Kids Latin America, Universal Kids (US), SVT (Sweden), CJ E&M (South Korea) and Netflix (multiple territories).

Mango TV also picked up La Cabane, Thuristar and CAKE’s co-production Mush-Mush and the Mushables (pictured), which revolves around a group of forest guardians who communicate with nature while learning about growing up. The 48 x 11-minute series is a four- to eight-skewing series, and is set to premiere internationally in 2021 on WarnerMedia’s Boomerang channel. The show was previously sold to Canal+ and Piwi+ (France), RTBF and VRT-Ketnet(Belgium), RTS (Switzerland) and RTL Telekids (the Netherlands).

True Vision, meanwhile added educational preschool show Olobob Top (78 x five minutes) and Anima’s Netflix original eight-to-12 adventure Legend Quest (26 x 25 minutes) to its slate.

In Indonesian ,distributor Red Candle acquired 31 compilation episodes of Rovio’s Angry Birds and TeamTO’s 78 x seven-minute non-dialogue comedy Oscar’s Oasis for broadcast on ANTV. Broadcaster DAAITV picked up upper-preschool adventures Space Racers (90 x 11 minutes) about a team of ships that explore the universe produced by New York-based Space Race and Wind Dancer Films’ Ready Jet Go (64 x 22 minutes).

Broadcasters GMA (Philippines) and Muse (Taiwan) added Angry Birds and its most recent iteration Angry Birds Maker Space (20 x one minute) to its roster, while Muse also snagged Oscar’s Oasis. Finally, in Japan, distributor TOEI acquired TeamTO’s non-dialogue slapstick comedy Mighty Mike (78 x seven minutes) to air on TBS across the country.
