Milkshake! is getting eco-friendly with factual series Go Green With The Grimwades. The show marks Channel 5’s first influencer-led offering for its preschool block.
Produced by London-based Doc Hearts, the 10 x 10-minute show encourages kids to be aware of their effect on the environment and make changes at home to protect the planet. It will center around The Grimwades (pictured), a family that features six home-schooled children and boasts more than 24 million channel views and 228,000 subscribers on YouTube.
Each episode will show these influencers tackling a different challenge to reduce waste. The first season will be inspired by five key themes—reduce, recycle, repair, reuse and refuse. Topics will include plastic awareness, using water efficiently and becoming a zero-waste household.
The series was commissioned with support from the Young Audiences Content Fund (YACF), through the British Film Institute. Go Green With The Grimwades joins a number of series previously greenlit by Milkshake! with support from the YACF. Three animated shows (Winnie & Wilbur, Milo and Circle Square) and three live-action shows (Mimi’s World, Meet the Experts and The World According to Grandpa) will air beginning later this year and into early 2021.
Alongside Go Green, Milkshake! also acquired the first season of Brave Bunnies. The 52 x seven-minute series is co-produced by Glowberry and Anima Kitchent, and distributed by Aardman. Brave Bunnies follows siblings Bop and Boo as they meet new friends and make discoveries while on a family road trip. The show is set to air on Milkshake! next year.
