WildBrain has picked up global distribution rights (excluding the UK) to upcoming TG Entertainment series The Brilliant World of Tom Gates.

Sky ordered the 20 x 11-minute comedy from the Scottish prodco in July to launch via its Sky Kids on-demand service in 2021 across the UK and Ireland.

The mixed-media series targets seven to 12s, and encourages kids to be artful through different craft projects, interactive games and songs. Based on the Tom Gates book series written by Liz Pichon, The Brilliant World of Tom Gates mixes live action, 2D animation and stop motion. Pichon is the show’s executive producer and presenter.

TG Entertainment is a joint venture between Scotland’s Black Camel Pictures and Wild Child Animation. Black Camel and Wild Child owner Red Kite launched TG Entertainment in 2018—after picking up the rights to the Tom Gates books—to handle production and consumer products rights for the adaptation.

Published by Scholastic and translated into 44 languages so far, the books have sold more than 11 million copies worldwide, according to the publisher.

WildBrain adds the series to its catalogue following a stable distribution year. The company’s distribution revenue held relatively steady at US$44.3 million in fiscal 2020, compared to US$44.7 million in 2019.
