UK productions grabbed two of the three trophies up for grabs at the ninth International Emmy Kids Awards today.
Preschool special The Tiger Who Came to Tea (Lupus Films, Tiger Tea Productions and HarperCollins Children’s Books) won in the Kids Animation category. It was up against Nat Geo’s Ico Bit Zip, Gutsy Animations’ Moominvalley and One Animation’s Oddbods (season three).
In Factual & Entertainment, BBC Children’s/CBBC in-house production Finding My Family: Holocaust A Newsround Special took home the trophy. Other nominees in the category included Nat Geo’s Opa Popa Dupa, Japanese broadcaster NHK’s My Notebooks—Seven Years of Tiny Great Adventures and Sveriges Television’s World’s Worst Diseases.
Australia’s Hardball (pictured) from Northern Pictures snagged the win in the Live-Action category. Made for pubcaster ABC, the series beat Submarine’s Doopie, MBC’s Extraordinary You and The Walt Disney Company Latin America’s Juacas (season two).
Today’s ceremony marked the second run of the International Emmy Kids Awards this year. In March, the regularly scheduled awards event was held online following MIPTV’s cancellation. The decision to hold a second round in a single year was attributed to various factors related to the COVID-19 pandemic, said the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences at the time.
