Genius Brands is going for a slam dunk partnership with NBA All-Star Shaquille O’Neal on new animated comedy series Shaq’s Garage.

Starring O’Neal, who will also executive produce, the 26 x half-hour series is about a team of vehicles that go on secret missions around the world and discover lost cities. As part of the deal, O’Neal is also getting involved in the California-based prodco as a shareholder.

Genius Brands and brand development companies PRP and ABG Entertainment (which represent O’Neal) are also on board to executive produce Shaq’s Garage.

Made for an all-ages kids audience, the show is slated to premiere in early 2022 on Genius Brands’ OTT Kartoon Channel!, which launched this summer. The free-to-use AVOD features more than 4,000 episodes from Genius shows including Baby Genius and Shark Academy. It’s available on a number of platforms, including Amazon Prime, Apple TV and Roku.

This isn’t the first time that O’Neal has tried to break into the kids space. In 2017, he inked a deal with Universal Kids to exec produce a comedy titled Little Shaq, inspired by his awkward childhood.

The All Star is also the most recent basketball mogul to play on the kids entertainment court. Earlier this month, Rock Hill Media Ventures partnered with the National Basketball Players Association to bring NBA players into the space. And MiMO Studios teamed up with NBA point guard Baron Davis in August to create sports content for families.
