Warner Media’s HBO Max and Cartoon Network have picked up two new kids shows and extended their deal with children’s author Mo Willems.
First up on the new slate is two-season series Tiny Toons Looniversity from Warner Bros. Animation (WBA) and Amblin Television. The half-hour animated comedy is exec produced by Steven Spielberg, alongside Cartoon Network Studios and Warner Bros. Animation president Sam Register, and Amblin Television co-presidents Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank.
Featuring the characters from WBA/Amblin’s Tiny Toons Adventures, Tiny Toons Looniversity follows Buster Bunny and his gang of friends as they pursue higher education. Erin Gibson (Throwing Shade) is showrunner and co-exec producer, with Nate Cash (Adventure Time) on board to exec produce as well. The show will air on both Cartoon Network and HBO Max, but no details on a launch date are available yet.
HBO Max and Cartoon Network have also greenlit Cartoon Network Studios’ action-adventure Unicorn: Warriors Eternal (pictured) for a simultaneous premiere. Created by Genndy Tartakovsky (Dexter’s Laboratory, Samurai Jack), the animated series follows a team of ancient heroes who get stuck in teenage bodies and have to work together to protect the world from evil. Unicorn: Warriors Eternal is in production now, but a release date has not been announced.
Finally, the streamer and kidsnet have also lined up three new projects as part of a newly expanded partnership with children’s book author Mo Willems. To start, CN and HBO Max greenlit animated comedy Unlimited Squirrels!, CG-animated Naked Mole Rat Gets Dressed: The Rock Special, and a pilot for live-action series Cat the Cat’s Show the Show Show with YOU the You! These newly announced series are part of the streamer’s multi-year deal with Willems, and will be exec produced by Greg Silverman’s Stampede Ventures. They join Willems’ live-action special Mo Willems and The Storytime All-Stars Present: Don’t Let the Pigeon Do Storytime! and a collection of animated films adapted from his Storytime Shorts! books that are currently on HBO Max.
