Buyers turned to big-name brands, celebs and perennially popular animals this month to capture eyeballs as kids spend more time at home during the second wave of the pandemic.

Netflix will head back to Jurassic Park, ordering a second season of Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous (pictured) to premiere globally in 2021. Season two picks up with a young group of campers struggling to escape Isla Nublar after the dinosaurs have run wild. Scott Kreamer (Pinky Malinky) and Aaron Hammersley (Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness) are on board as showrunners and executive producers, and the season will be exec produced by Steven Spielberg, Colin Trevorrow and Frank Marshall.

Disney Junior, meanwhile, is letting the dogs out with a fifth season of Puppy Dog Pals from LA’s Wild Canary Animation. Season four premiered October 23 on Disney Channel and DisneyNOW. The preschool series tracks fun-loving puppies that take on adventures around the world. The fifth season will be exec produced by Michael Olson, with Sean Coyle as a consulting producer.

Keeping the pranks coming, Nickelodeon has renewed live-action hidden camera series The Substitute for a new round of episodes. Its second season, hosted by social media star Juanpa Zurita and running now, features celebrities in disguise pretending to be substitute teachers for a day. The Substitute is produced by Industrial Media’s The Intellectual Property Corporation (IPC), with Eli Holzman, Aaron Saidman and Todd Hurvitz (Punk’d) executive producing, and Hurvitz also serving as the showrunner. Nickelodeon’s VPs of unscripted content Jessica Brown and Mandel Ilagan are also on board as exec producers, and production for Nickelodeon is being overseen by Rob Bagshaw, EVP of unscripted content.

Mattel is banking on some iconic IPs, teaming up with WildBrain to produce new seasons of Fireman Sam and Polly Pocket. The new seasons are part of a multi-year co-development, production and distribution deal between the two companies. Season 13 of Fireman Sam (26 x 10 minutes) sees a firefighting team take on more animated adventures and is set for delivery in June 2021. Season three of Polly Pocket (13 x 22 minutes) revolves around a small doll who uses magical powers to explore the world with her friends. WildBrain’s studio in Vancouver will produce the new episodes.

Gutsy Animation’s flagship series Moominvalley (13 x 22 minutes) has been renewed for a third time. Broadcasters YLE (Finland) and Sky (UK) greenlit the new season, which will air on linear channel Sky One, streaming service NOW TV and the Sky Kids app in the UK and Ireland in 2021 and 2022. Based on the work of writer/illustrator Tove Jansson, the series stars the quirky residents of Moominvalley, who work together to solve their problems while learning about kindness and caring for others. The series has been sold in more than 40 countries, including Japan (NHK) and ZDF (Germany).
