ZDF Enterprises has teamed up with German prodco Toon2Tango and Italy’s Mondo TV Group to co-produce the new 3D/CGI series Grisù (pictured).

A 52 x 11-minute action comedy based on a well-known ’70s Italian TV series with the same name, the new show centers around a young dragon who dreams of becoming a firefighter. The original series was created by brothers Nino and Toni Pagot and first aired in 1972 on Italian pubcaster Rai.

The new Grisù is currently in pre-production, with Mondo TV Producciones Canarias, Mondo TV France and Mondo TV handling pre-production and post-production. Germany’s ZDF and Toon2Tango will weigh in on creative and produce the series, which is scheduled for delivery in the second half of 2022. ZDF will also manage worldwide distribution outside of Italy, France, Spain and China. Toon2Tango and Mondo TV are overseeing licensing and merchandising rights.

Toon2Tango and Mondo TV signed a partnership last year to develop, produce and distribute up to eight animated projects togther. They’ve started to build up a production slate since, including sci-fi CGI adventure Agent 203 and preschool toon Hey Fuzzy Yellow.
