WildBrain & Samsung pact on new kids channels

In Europe and North America, the two companies will be launching multiple kids and teen channels available through smart TVs.

WildBrain has signed a new partnership with tech company Samsung to launch multiple new kids and teen channels.

The free ad-supported OTT channels will be distributed exclusively through Samsung smart TVs. All of them will offer linear content, rather than on-demand, and many launched this month.

“Caillou and Friends” (pictured) is now available in Spain and France, and “Teletubbies and Friends” in Italy, Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Both channels will be hosting their title shows and additional preschool content.

In spring and summer 2021, “Degrassi” channels for teens will be coming to the US and Canada. There will also be more kids channels launching in multiple European territories featuring Strawberry Shortcake, Bob the Builder and more series from WildBrain’s back catalogue.

This is the first time WildBrain has launched ad-supported linear channels on connected TVs in Europe.

More kids prodcos seem to be cutting out the broadcaster and going direct-to-consumers with OTT channels through connected TVs and similar platforms like Roku and Amazon Fire. This WildBrain news follows yesterday’s announcement that Common Sense is launching its own OTT platform. The free ad-supported service will initially be available in the US with 15,000 short-form videos.
