T&B Media Global
Netflix has picked up T&B Media Global’s Tasty Tales of the Food Truckers animated series (pictured) to launch across Southeast Asia on January 19. Targeting six to nines, this food-focused adventure tags along with a trio of friends and their talking food truck who seek out rare ingredients to make new meals.
Thailand-based T&B Media Global and Shellhut Entertainment produced the series, with Dan Clark on board as showrunner. Singapore’s Tiny Island Productions assisted with animation, while Bang Zoom Studios in the US and Canada’s Boat Rocker Media handled special effects and distribution, respectively. Tasty Tales will launch in Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, the Philippines, Myanmar, Malaysia, Laos, Indonesia, Cambodia and Brunei.
Canal+
French broadcaster Canal+ has acquired The Complicated Life of Lea Olivier from Montreal’s Encore Télévision. Encore and Ottawa-based Slalom Productions co-produced the tween-skewing series with Quebecor Content and Canadian broadcaster TFO.
Canal+ launched the 12 x 30-minute series on its linear channels in France, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Haiti, Vanuatu and French-speaking territories in Africa on January 11, as well as on its on-demand platform MyCanal. The show—which is a finalist for Best New Series at the upcoming Kidscreen Awards—follows a tween who moves from a small town to Montreal, where she has to adjust to new friends, romantic relationships and social obstacles. Martin Cadotte directed the series, with Rachel Cardillo and Sébastien Bertrand writing scripts based on the novels by Quebec-based author Catherine Girard-Audet.
Cloudco
LA-based prodco Cloudco and toyco Topps are teaming up on a new gross-out brand. The two companies are combining Cloudco’s Madballs and Topps’ Garbage Pail Kids in a range of new toys and soft lines that show the characters battling it out.
The two brands launched in the ’80s, and both have expanded into toys and animated content over the years. Cloudco and Topps have tapped new CP partners to bring them back into the spotlight, including Megalopolis (action figures), Mad Engine (apparel and accessories), Chalk Line (jackets), Mishka NYC (streetwear, apparel, figures), Pinfinity (pins) and Super Impulse (toys). Topps will also produce trading cards.
The partners are hoping nostalgia for the brands—and their mutual zaniness—will draw consumers to the new products.
Mondo TV
The Italian producer has sold superhero series MeteoHeroes (52 x seven minutes) to two European broadcasters. France’s Canal+ scooped up the animated adventure to start airing in April on its Piwi+ kids channel in France and French-speaking territories (excluding Canada). Turkey’s free-to-air kids channel Minika Çoçuk will also air the series for four- to seven-year-olds starting in May.
MeteoHeroes is about a group of superhero kids who use their weather-control powers to respect nature and protect Earth’s ecology. Italy’s Cartoonito has already picked up the series.
